Los Angeles Herald, Volume XXXII, Number 80, 20 December 1904 HORSE RETURNS WITHOUT RIDER Searching Party Finds Remains of John N. Wolfe, Resident of Palmdale, Killed, Probably by Fall After tramping the mountains near Palmdale for several hours in search of John N. Wolfe, a rancher living near Palmdale, a searching party came across his body resting In the brush at the side of a trail, yesterday evening, death having probaby resulted from an internal bleeding. Wolfe left his wife and three children early yesterday morning and went in search of a horse that had strayed from his ranch. He rode a horse and said that he was going into the mountains in search of his stray animal. Several hours later the horse ridden by Wolfe, with the lost animal trailing to its bridle by a halter, dashed up to the door of the ranch house without a rider. The alarm was sounded and a searching party organized. The body was found shortly after night and was taken to the ranch house, where an inquest will be held today. Wolfe's brother-in-law, living in Los Angeles, has been sent for and will leave in the morning to attend to the funeral arrangements. Los Angeles Herald, Volume XXXII, Number 82, 22 December 1904 Was Not Murdered John N. Wolfe, the Palmdale rancher, who was found dead by the side of a mountain trail a few miles from his home Monday evening, was not the victim of foul play, as was suspected. An autopsy held Tuesday developed the fact that he died of fatty degeneration of the heart. Additional information from his great granddaughter, Shauna, e-mail dated August 2, 2015 |
