Notes: | The subject of this bio had first/middle names of Lavina and Elizabeth; Elizabeth will be used hereinafter. Elizabeth is the daughter of John Herriford (born in Tennessee) and Nancy Carnes (born in Indiana). John and Nancy are buried at Stites Cemetery in Bernadotte, Illinois. Elizabeth married William A. Wheeling on 13 July 1856 in Fulton County, Illinois. To this union were born Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Wheeling, Wayne O. Wheeling and William Alexander Wheeling. Her first husband (William A. Wheeling) died on June 18, 1862 in Cochise County, Arizona. Lavina E. Wheeling married her second husband, Thomas Heryford, on May 31, 1865 in Fulton County, Illinois. To this union were born Estella, Sarah 'Sadie' and Nannie 'Pet' (Heryford, or Hereford, or Harriford or.....). Elizabeths' first husband is buried at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista, Cochise County, Arizona. Her second husband is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Los Angeles, California. Note - Elizabeth's headstone was vandalized and removed from the burial site 40+ years ago; it was also found 40+ years ago by the gentleman shown in the photo at the bottom. Don and wife spent all those years lovingly caring for the headstone and searching for where it belonged. The stars recently aligned and the headstone is back where it belongs. |
