Notes: | Married Regina Renata Rabe in Russia. To this couple were born 10 children. Erdmann and Regina and four of their children came to the United States on the ship Wieland, leaving Hamburg, Germany on 6 June and arriving in New York on 19 June 1877. Their adult son Johann and his wife Adelgunde and their three children were also onboard. There were Schmidt and Fiedler families on this ship that warrant further investigation with respect to Palmenthal history. The families settled in Yankton, Dakota Territory as seen in the 1880 census. By 1889 they have arrived at Palmenthal, as this is the first Rathke baptism in the Zion Lutheran Church records. Erdmann died of the flu on April 23, 1895. After the demise of Palmenthal his widow and many Rathke family members moved to Olpe, Kansas. |
